When is Anaemia Screening recommended?

Anaemia Screening is recommended when there are symptoms suggestive of an anaemic condition. These include fatigue, weakness, vertigo, dizziness, pallor, headache, brittle nails, shortness of breath and difficulty breathing.

What is Anaemia?

Anaemia is a clinical condition due to low blood haemoglobin levels and is characterised by a reduced ability to carry oxygen from the lungs to the tissues and the organs of the body. There are different forms of anaemia associated with different causes, including iron-deficiency anaemia (a lack of iron) and pernicious anaemia, a deficiency of group B vitamins (folate), such as vitamin B12 and B9 (folic aci).
